The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) rescued a person from a fishing vessel after receiving an emergency call on Friday evening, Cape {town} Etc reports.

According to Phillip Fouche, NSRI Simons Town deputy station commander, the duty crew was activated in response to Telkom Maritime Radio Services reports of a medical emergency on a fishing vessel south of Cape Point.

The boat was approximately two hours south of Cape Point, sailing towards Simons Town .

A WC Government Health EMS duty doctor, assisted by MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre), evaluated the patient in communication with the ships crew, and it was decided to initiate a medical evacuation operation for the adult male crewman who had collapsed onboard, reportedly due to a medical condition.

MRCC received assistance from the NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre), NSRI Simons Town duty controllers, TMNP (Transnet National Ports Authority), WC Government Health EMS, Telkom Maritime Radio Services, and Hout Bay volunteer EMS with the logistics and coordination of the medical evacuation operation.
