Party Over For World Cup Sevens?
The World Cup Sevens tournament may soon be scrapped from the international rugby calendar.
Netwerk24 reports that World Rugby has yet to confirm a host for the 2026 edition, fuelling speculation that the tournament - last held in Cape Town in 2022 - may not return.
A spokesperson for the governing body stated that competition structures are under review, with a decision expected later this year.
A comprehensive review of the rugby sevens landscape is being undertaken in partnership with stakeholders, the spokesperson said.
Since its inception in 1993, the World Cup Sevens has shared the stage with the World Sevens Series, the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
