Parliament To Engage Presidency On Drc Troops Deployment

Parliaments Joint Standing Committee on Defence wants to engage the Presidency in extending the deployment of the South African National Defence Force SANDF to the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC .

This was after the President had sent a letter to the Committee on Christmas Eve of last year, informing it of the extension of the stay of the troops.

However, some MPs seek clarity on what informed the decision to extend the deployment and the reason for the deployment.

Fourteen soldiers have died as a result of conflict with M23 rebels in Goma, DRC , nearly two weeks ago.
