Parliament Passes 2025 Budget

parliament passes 2025 budget

The National Assembly has adopted the 2025 Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposal as tabled by Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, by a slight majority.

The adopted framework includes recommendations that Treasury must be given 30 days to come up with alternatives to tax hikes, while scrapping the VAT hike and to adjust personal income tax brackets.

The Democratic Alliance, the biggest partner to the ANC in the Government of National Unity, did not support the report, leading to the ANC venturing outside of the GNU to garner support from parties like ActionSA.

House chairperson Cedrick Frolick, announced the results on the vote. The outcome as follows, no abstentions, 182 voted against and 194 voted in favour.
