Park Avenue Residents Threaten Legal Action Over Landfill Site

Residents of Park Avenue in Bloemfontein are threatening to approach the courts to compel the Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State to resolve the problem of a landfill site that is too close to their residential areas.

Residents say despite numerous engagements with the municipality nothing has been done to resolve the long running problem of the bad smell.

A resident at the complex Charles Mgwadleka says all attempts to get the problem attended have failed.

We are intending on taking legal action, as we have different body corporates here. I think they are three or so. We are also intending to mobilise them to join the campaign where well bring resources together and go to court and force the municipality through a litigation to remove the dump site. However, we must say we will first pursue the municipality as it was done couple of years ago, explains Mgwadleka.
