Pabasa Urged To Make Greater Strides To Transform Legal Profession

Gauteng High Court Judge President Dunstan Mlambo has encouraged the Pan African Bar Association of South Africa PABASA to make greater strides in transforming the country's legal profession.

Mlambo was speaking at a gala dinner in Sandton, celebrating PABASA's fifth anniversary.

The association aims to remove the obstacles traditionally experienced by black and female advocates while promoting independence, professionalism and excellence in the legal profession.

Mlambo lauded PABASA for its progressive approach.

He says, I chaired Legal Aid South Africa for 17 years, it represents a tiny part of our society in terms of providing them with legal services. You have done well in terms of challenging the thinking around briefing practices and the training of young lawyers, but I am challenging you today, there is good practice internationally about how you can cooperate and create a separate legal entity that can raise its own funds and brief you guys.
