Operations At Oshoek Border On A Standstill After Major Accident
Operations at the Oshoek border post with Eswatini in Mpumalanga have been suspended after a truck driver and two other people sustained injuries when his truck crashed into 15 vehicles.
It is alleged that the 32 ton coal truck experienced brake failure while descending towards the port of entry.
Spokesperson for the Border Management Authority, Mmemme Mogotsi, says among those who were injured are a SARS official and a tourism monitor.
All injured individuals were promptly attended to by the Eswatini Emergency Medical Services and transported to a hospital in Eswatini for immediate treatment. The port infrastructure was affected, and two guardhouses and an inspection shelter were severely damaged. Travellers and transporters of cargo are advised to use the following ports of entry with Eswatini. These are Nairstone Port of Entry, Mahamba Port of Entry, Chepesseef Port of Entry, as well as the Port of Entry with Mozambique, which is Lebombo Port of Entry, says Mogotsi.
