Operation Dudula To Sue Ramaphosa For Inaction On Spaza Snack Deaths
Operation Dudula says it will take President Cyril Ramaphosa to court to force him to establish a commission of enquiry into the deaths of 22 children who consumed snacks from spaza shops.
At a media briefing in Orlando, Soweto, on Monday, the party lamented that an inquest had been set up into the fire at the Usindiso building in Johannesburg but not into the circumstances that led to the childrens deaths.
Since its inception, Operation Dudula has been vehemently opposed to undocumented foreign nationals operating businesses outside the ambit of the law. The group had their sights set on enforcing compliance by foreign-owned Spaza shops and other businesses.
It has, on occasion, been labelled as a xenophobic or vigilante group. It will now litigate to compel President Cyril Ramaphosa to establish a commission of enquiry into the deaths of 22 children due to food-borne illness.
Dudula has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Professional Unity of South Africa PROFSA. The group of Advocates will guide Dudula on how to litigate the government to ensure accountability. It also wants AfriForum to apologise for lying about the treatment of Afrikaner South Africans.
