One Dead, Eleven Injured In Head-on Collision In East London
One person has died, and eleven others have been injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles at High Gate in East London, Eastern Cape.
Provincial Transport Department spokesperson Makhaya Komisa says the injured passengers have been taken hospital and a case of culpable homicide has been opened.
Many accidents could have been avoided if motorists obeyed the rules of the road. Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and has wished a swift recovery to those injured. The MEC urges all motorists to drive cautiously at all times, as most accidents in the province are caused by human behaviour.
This follows another head-on collision between a bakkie and a mini-bus in the Eastern Cape has claimed 11 lives. Three people were also injured. The crash occurred on the N2 outside Dutywa in December.
