One Dead, Another Missing After Boat Capsizes In Gqerberha

One person died and another is still missing after a rubber duck boat capsized after it entered the surf from the Swartkops River in Gqeberha.

Six people were on board when the rubber duck boat capsized. Four managed to escape to a nearby beach.

The body of the 50-year-old captain washed to shore, while the other victim is missing.

Police spokesperson Andre Beetge says an inquest docket has been opened.

It is alleged that on 02 March 2025 at about 17:00, a rubber duck with 6 persons on board entered the sea from Swartkops River and capsized. Four of the persons managed to swim to safety on the beach at St Georges Strand, while the body of the 50-year-old male skipper washed up on the beach. One male person is still missing and suspected to have drowned. The search for the missing person continues.
