Officials Conduct Surprise Raid At Mangaung Correctional Centre

Officials from the Department of Correctional Services recently carried out an unannounced search at the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein, the same facility where Thabo Bester, a convicted rapist and murderer, escaped in 2022. The surprise raid, led by the National Commissioner, Makgothi Thobakgale, was aimed at removing contraband from the prison and improving security.

Thobakgale also highlighted the importance of their Operation Vala, an initiative that helps keep inmates engaged and reduces the likelihood of escapes or violence, especially during the busy festive season. He believes that this operation has been successful in the past and is a key part of ensuring that the country's prisons remain safe and secure.
