officers nabbed for licence fraud bribery

The Hawks and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) have arrested a driving school owner and 13 licence officers working in Sabie, Graskop and Lydenburg testing stations in Mpumalanga.

It is alleged that the officers colluded with driving school owners in corrupt activities of issuing fraudulent driving licences.

At the Sabie testing station, two officials were arrested.

RTMC spokesperson, Simon Zwane says the officers, including four traffic law enforcement officers who were arrested in Verena outside Emalahleni, will be charged and appear in court today.

Their charges relate to bribery and corruption. These are the people who are taking bribes on the side of the roads, instead of giving people traffic fines for whatever violations of road regulations, they would take bribes. We take these matters very seriously for us as RTMC because these are matters that lead to high numbers of crashes and fatalities on the road, says Zwane.
