Nuclear Power Is Making A Comeback
South Africa will re-gazette the tender for the building of a new power station. This is according to the Minister of Electricity, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the second day of the African National Congress ANC National Executive Committee NEC lekgotla being held in Boksburg, East of Johannesburg.
Ramokgopa says the lack of confidence in nuclear power was not about the technology rather it was based on the tender process.
Nuclear is making a comeback. As part of this, I am announcing a panel of internationally renowned nuclear experts and scientists to help us on the pace and scale just to articulate that. And then we will be able to re-gazette it. Remember its just a credibility of the process itself, its not about the technology.
What has soiled this process is the credibility of the process so I am cleaning up the process, re-gazette and make sure that we are able to benefit from the balance of the technologies that our economy can afford, explains Ramokgopa.
