Cape Town-based non-profit organisation NPO South African Water Warriors is nearing its target of collecting 1,000 bales of lucerne to assist farmers and workers in the drought-stricken town of Calvinia in the Northern Cape. The NPO recently shared on its Facebook page that it is only 200 bales short of its goal.
The initiative aims to provide crucial hay bales, valued at R100,000, to help alleviate the impact of the drought on local farmers and their communities. The distribution of the bales is scheduled for 7 December.
Deon Smit, the founder of South African Water Warriors, encouraged individuals to contribute by making donations through the organisation's BackaBuddy campaign page to help meet the target.
While the primary focus has been on supporting farmers and their workers, South African Water Warriors has also been involved in providing water relief to various communities, including Wuppertal and Bettys Bay, especially in areas affected by fires.
