A family in Mogosane village near Mahikeng in the North West is demanding answers after its 40-year-old loved one from nearby Tsetse village died in police custody last weekend.

The family says police have told them that Mosimanegape Legose used his sock to hang himself at the back of a police van.

He had been taken in for questioning following reports that he had been fighting with his girlfriend. A family member who has opted to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal explains

"What shocks us is that they came to fetch him, and he got into the police vehicle willingly. But the next thing they came back with news of his death. We wonder what happened on the road. They dont say anything about what happened on the road. They say he hung himself with his sock. But when we ask to see the sock, he hung himself we dont get it."
