Defence counsel in the Senzow Meyiwa murder case, Zithulele Nxumalo, argued that there is no eyewitness evidence placing accused number four, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, at the crime scene. Maphisa, along with four other suspects, is on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for the 2014 murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa. Meyiwa was shot and killed at Kelly Khumalo's parental home in Vosloorus on Gauteng's East Rand.
During cross-examination of the lead investigating officer, Brigadier Bongani Gininda, Nxumalo questioned the alleged involvement of Maphisa in the murder, asking "Do you also confirm, Brigadier, that my client, Mr. Maphisa, was not identified by either the witnesses inside the house or by the neighbours at any material time when this incident took place?"
