Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says there will be no extension for prepaid electricity consumers to re-code their meters should they fail to do it by November 24.
Ramokgopa briefed the media on the pre-paid meter re-coding and the Integrated Resource Plan.
He says power utility Eskom has gone over and above to inform consumers about the upgrades and even extended their working hours.
"Its not extendable, it's a technical issue, we cant extend it. So its a hard stop. The 24 th , if you have not re-coded, then you are sitting with a different problem. So if you replenish your units based on the obsolete system then you can't load them and also you are sitting with another problem, which is that now when we re-code there is no need for us to substitute the meter."
"But beyond the 24th, we have to physically remove the meter and that comes at a cost, it's a significant cost and that cost must be borne by the consumer, but I guess the bigger cost is that you wont have electricity," adds Ramokgopa.
