Nine undocumented foreign nationals have been arrested in Kimberley after the provincial government raided spaza shops in the city.

The provincial police commissioner in collaboration with various departments in the province executed compliance inspections focusing on illicit and expired food stuffs sold at tuckshops in Galeshewe, Kimberley and Roodepan areas.

Northern Cape SAPS and provincial government conduct raid of local spaza shops

Thirty three spaza shops were inspected and 26 were closed down due to non-compliance, operating without valid licences and unhygienic reasons.

Provincial Police spokesperson, Mashay Gamieldien elaborates, In total 33 tuck-shops were inspected of which only seven were found compliant. While 26 were closed down due to non-compliance, operating without valid licenses and unhygienic reasons.
