Nimasa Commences Monitoring Of Spdc Oil Spill At Bonny Terminal
The Nigerian MaritimeAdministration and Safety Agency NIMASA has kicked off a monitoring operation following an oil spill at the Shell Petroleum Development Company SPDC loading terminal, SMI, located in Bonny, Rivers State.
The spill was reportedly caused by a ruptured pipeline, prompting SPDC to take swift action by shutting down the affected pipeline to prevent further leakage.
Additionally, containment booms have been deployed to curb the spread of oil and safeguard nearby communities from potential environmental hazards.
Despite these containment efforts, the spill has reached the shoreline, raising concerns about its impact on the ecosystem and local livelihoods.
