The Red Cross War Memorial Childrens Hospital in Cape Town has introduced a draft paediatric palliative care framework, which it says will enhance the services it offers.
The hospital made the announcement ahead of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day this weekend.
The programme is described as the first of its kind in South Africa.
Hospital nurse Alicia Dauds says the framework takes a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to care.
"For us, this is a first of its kind and it is focussed on how we take care of patients within specific lines and regulations, said Dauds. Things that we should do and things that we shouldnt do just so that we can provide the best care that we can for that patient, in that time."
