new okavango camp set for march opening

Ker Downey Botswana will open its latest Okavango Delta property, Maxa, in March next year in partnership with the Bukakhwe tribe in the village of Gudikwa.

Located under ebony trees on the south-eastern panhandle of the Okavango Delta, Maxa overlooks the permanent Maxa Lagoon. It is situated where the clear headwaters of the Okavango meet the channels of the Selinda Spillway, within the KAZA Transfrontier Park.

Maxa's philosophy centres on exploration, learning, and immersion in nature. The camp features a lounge and dining area under a canvas roof with traditional clay walls, complemented by handmade local furniture. The central courtyard, with picnic-style tables, surrounds a termite mound used as a wood-fired oven.

The camp accommodates up to 12 guests in four stretch canvas tents with ensuite indoor and outdoor bathrooms. The family tent has two bedrooms with a shared bathroom.

Activities include mokoro rides, guided walking safaris, nature drives, and cultural insights. Guests will transfer to Maxa by helicopter from Shinde airstrip.
