The eighth edition of a naval training exercise, which includes vessels from India, Brazil and South Africa, is continuing in False Bay, Cape Town today.

Simulations including replenishment at sea and anti-piracy have taken place over the past few days.

Todays exercises will entail manoeuvers at close proximity and boarding operations.

Captain Dieter Jones, from the SAS Amatola Naval Vessel, says the aim of the exercises is to strengthen relationships between the countries.

We did a whole array of exercises, ships manoeuvring in close proximity, replenishment at sea exercises, seaman evolutions and then expended into air defense exercises, where we as a force were actually attacked by the South African Air Force SAAF. We were also doing mock wars at sea, which included surfers warfare against one another ships engaging one another with long range missiles, and then the biggest aim of the exercise is to integrate special forces.
