NAFDAC Destroys Substandard Products Worth Nearly ?1 Billion in Kano

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit, expired, and unwholesome products worth approximately ?985.3 million in Kano State. The destroyed products, seized from the Northwestern region, included medicines, food items, cosmetics, chemicals, and medical devices.

According to NAFDAC Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the destruction of these substandard products will make Nigerians healthier and wealthier, contributing positively to the economy. She emphasized that the agency is committed to eradicating fake drugs and spurious products from circulation in Nigeria.

The destroyed products included antibiotics, antihypertensives, antimalarials, analgesics, herbal remedies, psychoactive substances, vegetable oil, non-alcoholic beverages, sachet water, condiments, tomato pastes, creams, pomade, ointments, insecticides, pesticides, agrochemicals, diagnostic kits, and infusion giving sets.

Adeyeye warned those involved in trafficking fake and unwholesome products that they will be caught and face the full force of the law. She urged Nigerians to be vigilant consumers, report suspicious products, and support legitimate businesses to save lives.

The State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Kasim Ibrahim, highlighted efforts to sanitize drug distribution in Kano, including the relocation of drug sellers to a Coordinated Wholesale Centre, which has led to successes in safeguarding the health of Nigerians.
