Murder-suicide In Orania Leaves 12-year-old Girl Orphaned

A 12-year-old girl has been left orphaned after witnessing a murder-suicide involving her parents in Orania last Monday evening.

According to Netwerk24 , Danie van der Westhuizen 47 allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife, Marlette van der Westhuizen 45, after asking to meet with her at around 6:45pm. He then turned the firearm on himself. The shooting took place in front of their daughter.

The incident occurred just days before the girls birthday. In response, the Orania community rallied around her, offering support and a small celebration despite the devastating circumstances.

Social services in the area have commended the young girl for her resilience in the face of such profound loss.
