Msunduzi Local Municipality Must Be Fully Functional Mkhize
Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs CoGTA, Dr. Zweli Mkhize says they want the Msunduzi Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal KZN to be fully functional.
Mkhize met with residents as part of an oversight visit by the Portfolio Committee in the province this week.
The municipality has been plagued with several issues including maladministration and service delivery failures.
Frustrated residents spoke out on poor service delivery, water shortages and discrepancies in the rates billing system.
Mkhize elaborates, The MEC and the municipality say there is progress. But on the side of the residents there is still a gap. The municipality, which is serving the community, needs to lose that gap even if there are limited resources. But there is a good response from the side of government, there is a sense of empathy of dealing with issues. They just need to make sure that the municipality is fully functional. There need to make sure that streetlights are working, electricity and water is provided. Where there are shortages there needs to be clear explanations.
