The worlds largest shipping line, which moves more than one million reefer containers every year, this week announced the launch of the innovative solution, iReefer, which allows shippers to monitor the temperature and location of cargo in transit in real time.

MSC is excited to introduce iReefer, our remote tracking and monitoring solution for reefer containers. With iReefer, customers can track their temperature-controlled shipments in real time, anytime, and from anywhere in the world, MSC said in a statement.

iReefer gives you quick and easy access to real-time insights about your shipment including information on position, temperature, humidity and more.

The solution is available 24/7 on the myMSC eBusiness platform or via an API Application Programming Interface.

MSC said it had launched three iReefer packages with different features, allowing customers to choose the best option for their business.

iReefer Essential, a free basic package, was currently available, and customers would be able to upgrade to iReefer Pro or iReefer Ultimate when these versions go live on 1 March, MSC said. The solution connects directly to a the users individual business system via an API.

The Essential package includes an overview of the customers historic and current reefer shipments, a container journey log and graphs. iReefer Pro includes these features and allows for unlimited downloads and access to additional data such as a containers GPS location.

MSC connected more than 210 000 reefer containers and fitted more than 500 vessels with iReefer technology ahead of rolling out the global solution.

Ultimately, the shipping line plans to connect its entire fleet of vessels and containers to the system.
