Mozambique President Fires Police Chief

Mozambiques President Daniel Chapo has fired his police chief Bernadino Rafael amid allegations of brutality during the recent riots triggered by the disputed October 9th elections.

The former police boss has denied reports that he collaborated with criminal groups to abduct and kill civilians.

Chapo is seeking to win public trust and revive the ailing economy following weeks of violent unrest in Maputo.

Around 300 people died in the recent protests over disputed elections.

President Chapo has replaced Rafael with Joachim Sive who previously served as police boss in Sofala and Nampula.
