Mozambican Nationals Remanded In Custody On Drug Trafficking Charges

Three Mozambican nationals, Alexandre Alberto Chissano, Raul Silvadore Homo, and Antonio Lisboa, have been remanded in custody following their brief appearance at the Johannesburg Regional Court.

The suspects were arrested by the HAWKS on Monday during a special operation targeting drug trafficking. They are facing charges of dealing in drugs.

The case has been postponed to 11 December 2024 for a possible bail application.

HAWKS spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha provided details of the operation, stating, "Their arrest followed information intelligence received regarding a gold Toyota Avensis implicated in drug dealing. Acting on this information, the vehicle was located in Kensington and stopped. Upon searching the vehicle with the occupants consent, a secret compartment behind the back seats was discovered but found to be empty."

"Further inspection of the vehicle's boot revealed five containers of crystal meth, weighing 5 kilograms and valued at approximately R1.3 million," Ramovha confirmed.
