Motorists Warned Of Deceptive Tow Truck Scams On South African Roads

In the wake of a concerning increase in tow truck scams across South Africa, the South African Motor Body Repairers' Association SAMBRA is urging drivers to remain vigilant, reports Cape town Etc .

A particularly alarming trend has emerged, where motorists, already in distress following an accident, are being preyed upon by unscrupulous tow truck operators.

According to SAMBRA, these individuals often pose as legitimate service providers, falsely claiming to be acting on behalf of a valid insurance company.

In a harrowing incident recently reported in Gauteng, a mother raised the alarm after her daughter was involved in a three-car collision. The mother took to social media, warning others in the community about the deceitful practices of the responding tow truck service, which attempted to mislead the family into relinquishing their vehicle under false pretences.

SAMBRA National Director Juan Hanekom has echoed this sentiment, highlighting that while many towing companies operate with professionalism and integrity, a disturbing number exploit the vulnerabilities of individuals involved in accidents.
