Low-cost carrier Jambojet launched flights between Mombasa and Zanzibar on July 1.
The flights operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, using an 82-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft.
The flights were initially announced at the East African Regional Tourism Expo in Nairobi last November.
Mombasa plays a significant role in our network, contributing 33 to our revenues and passenger numbers. Venturing into Zanzibar presents exciting opportunities for both nations and we are delighted to play a fundamental role in the development and growth of this market, said Jambojet Chairperson, Vincent Rague .
The launch is in line with the East African Community's aim of marketing the economic bloc's seven partner states as a single tourist destination. The East African Tourism Marketing Strategy aims to position the region as a leading sustainable tourism destination, with the objective of developing competitive multi-destination products and branding as a single tourism destination.
