After a seven-year hiatus, sports are making a grand return to the Lentegeur Sports Grounds with the launch of the inaugural Mitchells Plain Youth Cup, Cape {town} Etc reports.

In just over a month, the tournament will showcase 16 under-18 soccer teams from the Mitchells Plain Local Football Association (LFA), promising two days of thrilling football action.

Tournament director and Ward 76 Councillor Avron Plaatjies stated that the event will highlight the players skills and ignite excitement in the local football scene.

The primary objective of this tournament is not only to celebrate football, but also to mark the rebirth of the Lentegeur Sports Ground, a site that has historically produced both domestic and international sports stars who have proudly represented South Africa, he said.

Plaatjies emphasised that the tournament is more than just a football event; it represents an opportunity to offer young people positive avenues for success while revitalising a historically significant venue.
