The Democratic Alliance (DA) has vowed to approach the courts should President Cyril Ramaphosa sign the Basic Education Laws Amendment or BELA Bill into law on Friday.

Despite fierce opposition from several parties in the Government of National Unity (GNU) including the DA, the President is expected to sign the Bill which he says seeks to strengthen governance within South Africas education sector.

DA leader John Steenhuisen held two meetings on Wednesday with the President in Cape Town where he raised the DAs concerns over the Bill.

The Presidency has meanwhile confirmed that as things stand, Ramaphosa will sign the Bill as planned on Friday at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
