minister apologises to wsu community after killing on campus

Higher Education and Training Minister Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane has apologised to the students of Walter Sisulu University WSU in the Eastern Cape, as well as the family of the student who was allegedly shot and killed during unrest at the institution yesterday morning.

This after the university issued a statement saying that the deceased was not a registered student nor a staff member at the university.

Nkabane visited the Nelson Mandela Drive campus this evening and later visited another student who was shot and injured last month during a protest in WSU.

She will also visit the family of the 24-year-old deceased student in his hometown of Matatiele.

Nkabane elaborates, "One is not going to argue on those technicalities but what I know and what I saw from the records from NSFAS as the department we have been paying for the student last year till the end of the year. And this year I saw through the communication that we had with the students that he is indeed registered. I can affirm that he is a student at Walter Sisulu University."
