Midfielder Thabo Cele To Join Kaizer Chiefs After Russia Exit: Report

Kaizer Chiefs are set to sign midfielder Thabo Cele , 28, after he agreed personal terms, SABC Sport reported on Monday 27 January.

The highly rated Cele was at Russian Premier League club FC Fakel Voronezh until last week when he was released from his current contract because of health problems in his family.

As part of his agreement with Fakel, the former Bafana Bafana star can only play for teams in South Africa until the end of his contract in June.

The public broadcaster has been led to believe Cele will put pen to paper at Naturena should all the finer details be ironed out and boost coach Nasreddine Nabi's squad and become a marquee signing for the Soweto giants, SABC Sport reported.

The KwaMashu-born talent has previously been linked to a move to Amakhosi, who are currently having yet another inconsistent season and are under pressure to strengthen their squad.

Cele played for Bafana Bafana five times in 2017 under the then coach Stuart Baxter, making his senior debut at just 20 years old. He also played for South Africas Under 20, Under 23 and Olympics teams.

The right-footed defensive midfielder featured nine times for Fakel this season. According to Transfermarkt , his current market value is 350,000, which is around R6.7 million.

With just a few days left in the January transfer window, Kaizer Chiefs have secured the services of striker Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport United.

Winger Makabi Lilepo has also joined Naturena from French third division side Valenciennes.
