Mg Announces South African Model Line-up, With Prices Starting Under R300,000

MG's relaunch in South Africa has generated significant attention, especially with the numerous prominently branded dealerships appearing across the country. However, the key question has been what will the newly reintroduced company bring to the market?

MG's initial offerings in South Africa include the ZS and HS models.

The ZS, a subcompact SUV, has already proven itself as an international bestseller, with over 1 million units sold. It enjoys strong popularity in markets like Australia and the UK, where it even saw sales growth during the Covid lockdown. Available in Comfort and Luxury variants, the ZS is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine. It boasts advanced safety features, including six airbags, and a modern infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The vehicle also comes with a seven-year warranty for peace of mind.

However, during media drives in China, the test routes were limited to short sections off public roads, and the quick test at the facility which included heavily camouflaged models from other manufacturers did not provide enough opportunity to assess aspects such as fuel consumption and overall performance.
