Meyiwa Murder Trial Postponed To February For Defence Preparation

The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has been postponed to 3 February 2025 to allow Advocate Charles Mnisi to prepare for the defence of accused number 1, Muzi Sibiya.

Mnisi agreed to represent Sibiya after the passing of his lawyer Thulani Mngomezulu in December last year. Mnisi also represents accused 3, Mthobisi Mncube.

I deem it prudent to be afforded the opportunity to read the record as they relate to accused 1. All the assertions made by him and consult with him of whether he has witnessed. I request to be afforded the opportunity because this reading is voluminous. If I can be afforded an opportunity for two weeks to read through the record of about 35 000 pages, Mnisi requests.

Mnisi has been questioning lead investigator Bongani Gininda about warning statements that have been submitted without a police badge.

The statements are usually used by the police to warn suspect of their rights, which include the right to remain silent, before being questioned.
