Mec Says Major Investment Planned For Road Infrastructure In E Cape

Eastern Cape Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha says major investments in road infrastructure by the provincial government and South African National Roads Agency SANRAL will help address concerns raised by the South African Human Rights Commission SAHRC.

The SAHRC recently highlighted the provinces poor road conditions, revealing that only nine percent of roads are paved, compared to the national average of 25 percent.

Spokesperson for the department Unathi Binqose elaborates, MEC Nqatha says the report by the Human Rights Commision and its recommendations that government should invest more on road infrastructure, are spot on and the demand is ever increasing due to a number of factors, including the increasing population as new communities continue to spring up across the province.

MEC Nqatha was also quick to acknowledge the work done by the provincial government as well as national roads agency SANRAL, which have invested hundreds and billions of rands into road infrastructure in the province effectively turning the Eastern Cape province into a construction site.
