Mchunu Disbands Police Task Team Set To Probe Kzn Political Killings

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has confirmed that he has disbanded the police task team set up to investigate suspected political killings in KwaZulu-Natal.

He says it is no longer necessary because its not adding value to policing in the province.

The task team was established following the recommendations of the Moerane Commission of Inquiry.

Mchunu has also instructed National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola to halt all processes to fill positions in Crime Intelligence nationally and provincially.

On Thursday, the South African Police Service reported that it coughs up nearly R4 million a year for 40 suspended officers who received their full salaries. This came out in a written Parliamentary answer.
