Mayor Xhakaza Condemns Metro Police Protest That Clogged City Roads
Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has condemned the recent protest action by the City's metro police officers, describing it as shameless .
Ekurhuleni Metro Police went on strike, disrupting traffic on various major roads in the city last week . They were demanding increased salaries and danger allowance.
Xhakaza says action will be taken against those who participated in the illegal strike.
The Ekurhuleni Mayor was delivering his State of the City Address in Germiston, on Gauteng's East Rand.
"Let me join in condemning the recent illegal protest by our EMPD officers. This was an unprecedented act by any law enforcement institution. Stern and decisive action will be taken against those involved in this shameless act. Let me take this opportunity to apologise to everyone who has been inconvenienced by this. We are doing everything in our power to ensure that this does not happen again."
