The Egyptian Premier League title race may be over, but the battle to win the Golden Boot is still raging, as Fiston Mayele tries to chase down Wessam Abou Ali.
Mayele, who plays for Pyramids FC, scored a hat-trick in his teams comfortable 5-2 win over Talaea El Gaish on Sunday night, narrowing the gap with Al Ahlys Abou Ali to just one goal.
The Congolese striker now has a chance to win the award when his team hosts El Dakhelya on Wednesday in the last round of the league, especially as Al Ahlys striker has been rested after guiding his team to the title, leaving the door open for Mayele.
The Pyramids player has been leading the race since the start of the season, but Abou Alis incredible form since he joined Al Ahly in January boosted him to the top spot.
Mayele needed 31 matches to score 17 league goals, while Abou Ali needed 12 less matches to score 18 goals, in addition to six assists, playing a massive role in his teams journey to defend their Egyptian League title.
