Mashatile Calls On Men Forums To Break Cycle Of Violence
Deputy President Paul Mashatile's call for men's societies and associations to take action against violence is a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility in addressing the persistent issue of Gender-Based Violence GBV and Femicide in South Africa. Speaking at the biennial Men's Parliament in Parrow, Cape Town, Mashatile emphasized the role that mens groups must play in breaking the cycle of violence within communities.
The event, held on the second day of the parliament, also served as a platform for launching the Better Men for Tomorrow campaign. This initiative, aimed at mobilizing men to be champions of change, underscores the need for greater male involvement in fighting GBV and promoting healthy, respectful behaviors. The gathering was organized by the Mens Sector of the South African National AIDS Council SANAC in collaboration with the National Men's Forum South Africa and other key stakeholders focused on supporting men and boys.
Mashatiles message highlighted the urgency of addressing violence and its deep-seated impact on communities, stating, "We must be committed and strengthen efforts to deal with the scourge of violence in our communities." He stressed that this commitment is crucial not just for the present but for safeguarding future generations and breaking the cycle of trauma and violence that has plagued South African society for decades.
By focusing on the role men can play in challenging harmful behaviors and norms, the event seeks to engage men as active participants in the solution, creating a path toward healing, respect, and peaceful communities. The Better Men for Tomorrow campaign aims to instill a sense of responsibility in men, calling them to act as leaders in the fight against GBV, making significant strides towards a society where violence is no longer tolerated.
