Maselspoort Dam Hits Critical Capacity After Heavy Rainfall

The Maselspoort Dam near Bloemfontein in the Free State has reached critical capacity following heavy overnight rainfall .

The Mangaung Metro has issued a warning for residents and resort establishments in the area downstream of Mockes Dam on the Modder River to relocate all movable assets including furniture, equipment and personal belongings to higher ground or safe storage facilities.

Metro Spokesperson Qondile Khedama says people are advised to monitor water levels and prepare to evacuate if the need arises.

Khedama has also advised people to be aware of fallen trees and power lines.

Motorists have been cautioned against driving through flooded areas.
