Plans for a new Brightline train stop on the way to South Florida have gotten a red light.
On Monday, the board of Martin County Commissioners voted 3-2 to rescind a ground lease and train station agreement for a Stuart connection with Brightline.
The proposed Stuart station was located on 2.35 acres in the heart of historic downtown Stuart in Martin County.
The City of Stuart, Martin County and Brightline planned to share the costs for the $60 million station, which would have been located approximately 40 miles north of Brightline West Palm Beach.
The high-speed rail company celebrated the inaugural launch for its Miami to Orlando route in Sept. 2023.
