Mamelodi Sundowns Spent The Most On Transfers In Africa In 2024: Fifa
Mamelodi Sundowns were the highest spending club on transfer fees in the Confederation of African Football CAF in 2024.
This is according to the FIFA Global Transfer Report 2024 published on Thursday 30 January.
Transfers: Highest spending CAF clubs in 2024Sundowns, who are South Africas Premier Soccer League PSL champions, moved up two places to displace previous top spenders Al-Ahly of Egypt.
Tunisias Esperance Sportive de Tunis came third in the list, followed by Moroccos Wydad and Libyas Ahly Tripoli. The image below shows the top 10 list of spenders on transfer fees last year in the CAF region.
The report does not provide spending figures for individual clubs. However, it revealed that global spending on international transfer fees totalled 8.59 billion in 2024.
This is the second highest total ever, topped only by the record spending of 2023 9.66 billion, it added.
Globally, Paris Saint-Germain was the top spending club, followed by Manchester United, Olympique Lyonnais and Bayern Munich. Brighton Hove Albion rounded off the top five.
In the CAF region, mens clubs spent a total of 33.4 million in 2024, up massively from 18.2 million in 2023. Incoming transfers rose from 2,150 in 2023 to 2,330 last year, while outgoing transfers similarly increased from 3,090 to 3,240.
In South Africa, clubs spent 10.1 million around R187 million at current exchange rates on transfer fees and received 4.65 million approximately R86 million. This was a big increase from 2023s 1.45 million R27 million spent and 3.87 million R71 million received.
