Former City of Cape Town mayoral committee member for human settlements, Malusi Booi, and eight co-accused are scheduled to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates Court today.

The group faces charges including money laundering , racketeering, fraud and violations under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.

Initially, there were nine co-accused but one individual was shot and killed outside his home in Mitchells Plain.

The accused are out on bail, with amounts ranging from R25000 to R250 000. The case involves tender fraud amounting to over R1 billion.

The State alleges that Booi and his co-accused were part of a criminal enterprise led by alleged crime boss Ralph Stanfield, who is also expected to appear in court today in connection with the case.
