Majodina Says Gauteng Water Crisis Is Self-inflicted
Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina has reiterated that the water crisis in Gauteng is self-inflicted.
She says municipalities were warned as early as June to take care of the water infrastructure in the province.
This as most parts of the province have been battling with water cuts in recent weeks.
Majodina was briefing the media on the departments performance during its first 100 days.
It is important to state that there is no drought in Gauteng. However, the province is experiencing water security challenges which include credit management issues, water losses, aging infrastructure, illegal connections, illegal mining and servitude encroachment. The ministry of Gauteng and the provincial government have intervened to address the challenges by calling on all municipalities in Gauteng to impose water restrictions, hence Gauteng is on water restriction level one.
