Macron Swears While Addressing Islanders On Cyclone-hit Mayotte Video
French President Emmanuel Macron was caught in a heated exchange with residents of Mayotte on Thursday night, where he angrily told a crowd of locals in the cyclone-hit French territory, "If it weren't for France, you'd be 10,000 times deeper in shit." The remark came amid frustration from both sides following Cyclone Chido, which struck Mayotte on December 14. The storm, which hit the island located between Madagascar and Mozambique in the Indian Ocean, caused widespread devastation, destroying infrastructure and flattening many of the tin-roofed homes that make up the area's large slums. Nearly a week after the worst storm in 90 years, Mayotte, Frances poorest overseas territory, continues to face severe water shortages.
