Luxury Hospitality Group Enters Africa

Jumeirah has announced its entry into Africa with the launch of two exclusive destinations Jumeirah Thanda Island in Tanzania and Jumeirah Thanda Safari in South Africa. These ventures are the result of a partnership with the Thanda Group, a private hospitality collection.

Jumeirah Thanda Island

Situated within the Shungimbili Island Marine Reserve off the coast of Tanzania, Jumeirah Thanda Island is an exclusive-use retreat. The island features a five-suite villa and two Swahili bandas with a range of activities including whale shark encounters, dhow sailing and coral reef restoration initiatives. Guests have access to a private chef and boatman for a tailored experience. The island will also continue marine conservation projects and support community programmes like Star for Life, which educates and empowers local youth.

Jumeirah Thanda Safari

Located in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Jumeirah Thanda Safari spans 16 500 hectares within a big five game reserve. It includes Jumeirah Residences, The Royal Thanda Club and plans for a luxury tented camp and refurbished lodge by 2027. Activities include guided game drives, cultural programmes focusing on Zulu traditions and conservation efforts like Project Rhino KZN and the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project.

Strategic expansion

Thomas Meier , COO and Interim CEO of Jumeirah, emphasised the importance of Africa in the groups growth strategy.

As we look to the future, our intent for Jumeirah is clear. We want to grow sustainably into new destinations and diversify our portfolio with focus on properties that offer a distinct proposition and deliver enriching guest experiences rooted in culture and connection.
