Louzanne Coetzee Bags Second Medal For Team Sa
Team South Africa has won its second medal at the Paris Paralympic Games as well as on the athletics track. Louzanne Coetzee finished third in the T-11 1500m final to add a bronze medal to the gold won by sprinter Mpumelelo Mhlongo in the T44 100 m Sunday night.
Coetzee, a visually impaired athlete, clocked a personal best time of 4 min and 35.49 sec in the final race to secure her place on the podium.
The race was won by world champion Yayesh Gate Tesfaw of Ethiopia. She set a new world record of 4 min and 27.68 sec.
Meanwhile, Shanshan He of China finished second, more than 5 seconds behind the Ethiopian.
Coetzee won bronze in the same event at the World Championships in Kobe, Japan, in 2023 and silver at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, but her times were significantly slower back then.
