Civil society organisation Accountability Now says accountability is important in the prosecution of extradited fugitive, Michael Lomas .
Lomas is charged in connection with an allegedly corrupt R745 million Kusile Power Station contract.
He will face the charges in court next Friday where the matter will be heard in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court.
Executive Director at the organisation, Paul Hoffman, says the kind of corruption Lomas is implicated in affects ordinary South Africans and its important that these cases are prosecuted.
R1.4 billion has already been seized and is being held, so the money is there - its a question of whether the state will be able to prove the allegations against Mr Lomas and his co-accused when the matter eventually comes to trial. The money in this case is money that belongs to the taxpayers of South Africa and as such its really quite important that we bear in mind that the corruption here has a direct impact on the people of South Africa.
